New Spiritless Day Care Centre Opens In Munich

The Technical University of Munich has opened a new day care centre for 60 children, meant to help young mothers who are studying.

While the mission is honourable, the building itself is exceptionally unpleasant. Designed by Hermann Kaufmann + Partner and Kéré Architecture as a vertical kindergarten, the massive wooden structure looks less like a warm space for children and more like a cold office block. Instead of a traditional, cozy schoolhouse, the campus features a stark, austere, vertical wooden cube, which is far from a welcoming environment best suited for small children.
